The Alliance and WPS Insurance Corporation have a unique relationship in that we work together in multiple ways. To avoid confusion we thought we would describe our relationship with WPS as it may relate to you, the provider.

Credentialing

In an effort to meet our need for a credentialed network while keeping duplicate work for our providers to a minimum, The Alliance partners with other entities who have already developed their own credentialing programs. WEA Insurance Trust has filled this role for the past 10 years, and you may be aware that this arrangement ended as of Dec. 31, 2016.

We are pleased to announce that as of Jan. 1, 2017, WPS Insurance Corporation is our new credentialing partner. WPS is a not-for-profit health insurance company and is also a member employer in The Alliance as of Jan. 1.

We will make every effort to minimize delay in provider credentialing approvals as we work through this transition. Please note that there will be no lapse in your provider’s participation status in The Alliance network due to this change.

As of Jan. 1, The Alliance will honor WPS’ credentialing dates for practitioners. If your practitioners have not already been credentialed by WPS, you will receive an application in the near future. For all practitioners, credentialing applications will be sent by WPS prior to the three-year expiration date. Approval letters will continue to be sent from The Alliance.

It is also important to note that similar to WEA, WPS does not consider a provider covered under their plan until credentialing approval has been obtained. It is our recommendation that your providers refrain from treating WPS enrollees until you are certain approval has been achieved.

Member & Misrouted Claims

WPS non-bargaining employees began accessing The Alliance network effective Jan. 1, 2017.

Initial ID cards issued to these plan members incorrectly instructed providers to file claims directly to WPS. ID cards for impacted plan members have recently been updated and reissued.

To avoid unnecessary claims denials for impacted WPS employee plan participants, we encourage you to share this with your front line staff to ensure a copy of this updated ID card is requested for your records.

We’d also like to take this opportunity to remind you that regardless of what any Third Party Administrator (TPA) advises, claims should always be filed directly to The Alliance whenever our logo and claims filing address is referenced on the ID card presented by the patient. Filing claims directly to the TPA results in unnecessary claims repricing and processing delays.
